The Journey
by Julie Abarzua
A work of fiction about real life....
In the suburbs of Las Vegas, a
mother rests in the shade of a large tree trying to understand why
her life is teetering on the brink of disaster. After more than a decade
of marriage, her relationship is stalled, family finances are in shambles, time
for her children is sparse, and her dreams for the future have all but disappeared.
She allows her thoughts to meander
through the peaks and valleys of her past, searching for answers. She
takes a mental inventory one more time -- good education, good job, marriage,
children -- what went wrong?
Her children's laughter distracts
her and she takes a moment to watch them play as her husband relaxes just 25
feet away. Her life appears happy, yet she struggles to control the
desperation and anger raging just below the surface.
She knows that
something must change. But what? And how?
Fortunately, angels of providence
are ready to guide her. But first she must quiet her own thoughts, open
her heart, and listen.
